Shoreditch, London Borough of Hackney

Hawkins\Brown designed an imaginative refurbishment that adapted and refurbished two Edwardian School Buildings to create a new Students' Union, creche, language laboratories and student reception for the Shoreditch campus. The addition of brise soleil and natural ventilation systems controlled temperature within the spaces. The hostile exterior was opened up to create a building that was accessible across a range of issues including language, culture, gender, politics, economics and ability.
