As lead artist Bob and Roberta Smith is curating an ambitious programme of commissions to reinvigorate neglected green space in the Thames Gateway, South Essex. The project is being funded by EEDA's Investing in Communities (IiC) programme and Arts Council England, East. Director of Hawkins\Brown, David Bickle is working with Jane Wilbraham one of the 5 selected artists to create a semi-permanent mobile sculpture in the form of a giant fish / sea creature. The sculpture will operate as a multifunctional spectacle, kiosk, information and distribution centre and performance platform and will tour around the Garrison Estate in Purfleet. Jane's project draws on the rich and varied history of Purfleet, in particular its relation to transport, the water and its proximity to London and especially the fish dinners enjoyed by government ministers in the eighteenth century.
